About Lake Balaton

Lake Balaton is a well-known lake in Europe. It is the biggest sweet water lake in central Europe. It is a fashionable holiday resort not only for Hungarian citizens but for people from abroad.

The lake itself is 77 km long and its widest point is 14 kms. Its average depth is 3m meters and the deepest point is called Tihany well and it 11 m.

Why is it a popular vacation spot. Consider having small children for instance. When you visit any seaside you have to be scared when your child goes for a swim and the water gets very deep in a short time. Or the salty water burns your skin. Well none of theses might happen to you in Lake Balaton. The water is shallow, but if you want to swim you can find beaches with deeper water as well. Since its not deep the sun heats the water pretty quickly. And about saltiness. Not at all. Just sweet, smoot and clean water.

What else can you do besides bathing and swimming. Consider all other water sports like sailing, fishing, wakeboarding or simply boat trips to the other shore. All fun activities.
