Sights and places of interest in Siofok

Imre Kálmán Memorial House

The birth house of the great composer Imre Kálmán is home to his memorial house. On the ground floor of the house there is an exhibition of his, as are his original scores, his personal belongings. The upper floor always hosts temporary art exhibitions.  


Cultural Centre of the South Region of Lake Balaton  

At Siófok, the Cultural Centre of the South Region of Lake Balaton is the biggest cultural institute of town. It is in the centre of Siófok, close to Water Tower on the main square. On the sqare, in front of the building, one can see the group of statues named "Venus' birth" created by a Hungarian sculptor, Imre Varga.

The Cultural Centre including an air-conditioned auditorium with 480 seats, is excellent for theatre performances, conferences and other cultural events.

At the same time, the Cultural Centre is the centre of communal life giving home to a number of clubs and civilian associations. In summer, during the season of tourism, it firstly meets the demands of tourists from abroad, mainly in the fields of operettas, folk dance and folk arts.

On the first floor portico of the Cultural Centre temporary exhibitions are made. Visitors can get acquainted with outstanding artists from among the best ones of the profession. The best artists of the Hungarian folk- and fine arts are presented to the audience here.

In the entrance hall on the ground floor of the Cultural Centre one can find the evocative café "Teatrum" where even theatre performances are given.


Water tower


The 75 m high Water Tower finished in 1912 soon became the symbol of Siófok. It was redecorated in 2010. There is a spectacular view from its tower. The Tourist Information Office is located on the ground floor of the tower.


Main Square


The heart of the city. It is the area around the Water tower. You can find the Town Hall, the Cultural Center and several shops here. It is also surrounded by many statues created by the above mentiones sculptor, Imre Varga.


Villas of Siofok

The city hasn't only become a holiday resort recently but in the 19th century as it was also a visited place by the Hungarian aristocracy. There footprints can be found in the town. Battyány és Petőfi promenades house many of their villas which worth a visit...

Churches


Lutheran Church

Imre Makovecz, anwell renowned architect designed this truly unusual Lutheran church. As in most of the architect's other buildings, wood, as a natural building material, is dominant. A guided tour is available with advance booking. By 2010 the church reached the age of 20. 


Roman Catholic Church
The Roman Catholic Church is one of the oldest buildings in the town which has been built in neo-roman style in 1903. Largest organ of the whole-Balaton region is to be found also in the church. In the church organ concerts are organized every summer with appearance of well-known home and foreign artists.

Museums


Egg museum

The exhibition of eggs was opened 10th October 2003 on the day of the egg as part of the well-known Egg Festival in Siofok. Since then the collection has moved to a permanent place and the museum can be visited every day. It is unique of its kind. So do not miss it.


Mineral museum

One of the biggest private collections of minerals which has been open since 1986. It is situated in the city center in Kálmán Imre street not far from Imre Kálmán museum. The museum exhibits more than 3000 minerals.


Töreki Colony of Artists
Picturesque landscape and ideal circumstances are guaranteed for creation on the Töreki Colony of Artists. The doors are open before all artists acknowledged by the profession or unfolding their young career. Parks


Millenium Park
The 16,000-square metre Millennium Park was created in 1994. It lies in front of the railway station. Planted with thousands of flowers and bushes.

Jókai Park
Jókai Park is the biggest park in the city. It contains a small lake, Japanese garden, many walking trails and 2 playgrounds for children. The park was rebuilt in 2006.
